Sees potential in Abbey, the "Arcadian", and supports her throughout book with efforts and strength in training, planning, fighting, etc. A main character, with very few distinguishing characteristics. (Cursed well, liked to get into trouble (fights).

Syd shaves her head out of respect and to maintain a vow to keep it bare until she finds out what had happened to her brother, who had gone out with Tot, as a crewman, and had never come back. Tot refused to tell her what and had happened, and was upset with her for asking too often.
