Lilly, a girl talented with natural druid-type magic, can see/talk to birds, bears, etc. Tarchus is the bird she was asking to serve as her lookout, tracking the movements of the enemy guards, soldiers, etc. INcredibly useful for spying on the enemy. However, No one else could talk to Tarchus, not even Julianne.
