SOM01 Storm Raiders/05
This whole area, in the lands of the Hidden Magic series and the Storms of Magic series, was perhaps comprised of the old lands of Great Britain, Scotland, Ireland, and that of the Scandinavian countries of Sweden and Norway. Might have had Iceland thrown in, as well. (See map, files below)
Roneland (Hidden Magic series), was in Britain/Scotland, with the Remnants perhaps occupying Ireland. In the Storms of Magic series, the city of Holdgate would have been Swedish/Norwegian, and the Barskall Warriors perhaps from Iceland.
Holdgate was a city with little farming, existing almost exclusively from economies of the sea, mostly fishing. It was blessed by the sea, and the sea was the only god worshipped. A festival was held yearly to honor those who had given their lives throughout the last year in maintaining that relationship. It did not mourn them, it celebrated them, with competitions of all kinds (drinking, barrel throwing, rope climbing, etc.) They tended to haggle (bargain) over everything ! The people took joy in their activities. They worked hard, and played hard. They celebrated the return of the Stormships, the Thunderclap, the Summer Wind, and the others. It celebrated the return of the fishing ships, the Bass Mouth, the Foggy Day. The Stormships , with their Stormcallers, kept the storms active between the Kaldwell Peninsula and Barskall (the Storm Wall) so that the Barskall Warriors couldn't come down to harass Holdgate and other towns.
The Arcadians called the Holdgate Stormships the Storm Raiders, and accused them of killing and pillaging innocent villages in Northern Europe. . Barskall, on the other hand, was a cold, harsh land, no farming. It was rumored to grow special plants, which were unique to their land, and which were used to make a special drink called seiderdrek, which turned men into fierce warriors, with unquenchable blood lust Killing was the only thing that woould give them pleasure. Its people were always angry and bitter.
