TVC 03/1 Zinqued was a pirate/slaver who owned his own ship, the Zumbir, and tried to make a living through his nefarious activities. He hadnt been too successful, so had joined the small Syndicate of local mercenaries, and knew Crallus, and many of his fellow mercs. During one of his outings, looking for ships to rob, he ran across the Shinigami, and planted the idea firmly in his mind, and in the minds of his crew, that their fortunes would be made if they could capture that ship, sell the AI for a monstrous fee, and retire for life. He was absolutely correct, as the value of Shinigami was known, but easier said than done.
Throughout Warden he tries in many ways to do so, not succeeding. Shinigami began to laugh at his efforts, and Barnabas almost never took him seriously, so he always was allowed to escape with little or no damage.
In the final battle, at the ultimate Yennai base, where there had been overwhelming forces gathered and an ambush laid from which it "would be impossible to escape", he and many of the Captains in the final mercenary force of fifty ships simply laid down their weapons and surrendered, which allowed Barnabas to mind-read them, saw them as family men, not cruel, just caught in life's battles, and Barnabas allowed them to go home to their families, promising to do nothing else illegal in their lives, and telling the world what a fantastic ship the Shinigami was.
Zinqued's ship, named the Zumbir
Captain, an older merc named Paun, who always wanted to be safe in what they were doing, not to take too manychances. Zinqued’s captain was a singularly joyless Hieto male, but he was a fair captain who neither blamed his crew for random chance nor stinted them on their shares. After their first attack on Shinigami, Paun stated his position," “I’ve made my living by not going after ships like that, kid. This is over.” But it wasn't.
Engineering Mate: Chofal. a female Yofu mechanic. Double thumbs helped with that! Because had eyes on the side of their heads, had wide-angled vision, useless for standard screen interface, but wonderful for mechanical work. She was willing to test her skills on anything that Zinqued asked.
