Akio to stay in Japan with Yuko, as advisor, guard, when Bethany Anne left for space. Job was to protect UnknownWorlders while she was gone, provide a safe haven for Michael when he came back. Had communication with Bethany Anne, not the best - 6 words every 6 months, but was able to tell her of Michel's return. Helped Michael in Second Dark Ages series, and was picked up and returned to space with them, to bigger and better activities.

A nickname Akio had acquired during his 150 years of Samurai activities pre Bethany Anne. “The Shadow,” someone whispered. Akio turned in their direction and bowed his head slightly. "I have lived here for over a hundred and fifty years. I have tried to solve problems through the judicious use of fear and intimidation rather than killing. The Shadow has not killed in the last two decades.
