AND 01/12 One of two security guards hired by Julianne to help her pilgrimage on it's way through the Madlands, in search or Artemis. Bette was other guard, a female, much to Garrett's disgust. In his opinion, females belonged "you know where!". Garrett had helped Julianne in the Arcadian events, so she knew him, and of him. A good choice for a guard. Knew his profession, would not shirk. Garrett and some of the other rearick had showed up when the Arcadian rebellion needed them the most. Together, they’d fought off Adrien and made the city a free place again

AND 01/15 Garrett and Bette defended Julianne's group from their first attack, by Gus and Barton. The New Dawn people hgd set them up (mind-control), to try to kill Julianne's group off before they got started. didn't work, but made the Mystic group ,ore alert as to their dangers.
Garrett had a problem on this trip. Garrett’s tentative attraction to his colleague gave him an urge to protect her, keep her away from danger and the sort of hardships the men faced. Though rearick women were no strangers to hard work, and deeply respected for their management skills, they were rarely seen in male-dominated jobs like the guards. And yet, he’d seen her fight. He knew she excelled in hand-to-hand combat and could probably beat even him. That caused a discomfort and Garrett couldn’t get to the root of it.
Garrett and Bette provided excellent service throughout the story. Both survived.
